ABSTRACT
India’s demographic landscape is primarily rural, with 69 percent of its population residing in rural areas, and nearly half of the workforce engaged in agriculture, as per the 2011 Census. The government has initiated various schemes focusing on rural development and improved livelihoods. One such significant program is the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), launched in 2014. This study aims to assess the performance of SAGY in Rajasthan and propose enhancements for its efficacy. Utilizing secondary data from diverse government sources, including the SAGY portal (2014-2024) and the Ministry of Rural Development site. The findings reveal a lack of relevance in the selection of SAGY villages and the absence of pre-surveys to inform the selection process. The paper suggests that a transformative impact on rural Rajasthan can be achieved through a systematic and time-bound approach to selecting SAGY villages, coupled with the proper implementation of the program’s objectives.
